Rang Dong, Partners Win Social Housing Design Contest
The group led by Inchigroup, an interior design and furniture making firm, and which included suppliers of building materials and equipment for social housing projects received a second prize of the contest sponsored by the Construction Ministry and hosted by the Vietnam Association of Architects. Entitled “Social Housing Prototype Design Ideas – Towards Sustainable Solutions”, the contest was aimed at seeking innovative, feasible prototype designs for social houses that prioritize sustainability, rapid construction, cost efficiency and human-centered approaches.
Launched in September 2025, the contest has drawn active participation by architects at home and abroad, its organizer, the Architecture Magazine, said in a statement issued on its website.
Out of 69 proposals, seven won the First Prize, eight others secured the Second Prizes, while the Third Prize went to another three proposals and 21 got the Consolation Prize. The award ceremony was held on January 10, 2026 in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital.
Winning entries emphasize practical applications of green technologies, reduced construction timelines and costs, modular standardization, and adaptability to Vietnam's diverse regions, aligning with government directives to accelerate social housing development amid urbanization and environmental challenges.
Rang Dong's Contribution
The proposal submitted by Inchigroup and joined by the Hanoi-based Rang Dong, fully known as Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company, comprised of electrical installation, control and green lighting solutions, focusing on a model of social housing that is quick to build, economical and centered on residents' needs.
In the proposal, Rang Dong built the lighting system equipped with battery-free, wireless switches and smart LED technologies that minimize material use and shorten installation time.
These innovations eliminate traditional wiring complexities, reduce construction waste and enable flexible layouts adaptable to various apartment sizes and configurations in high-rise or low-rise social housing blocks.
Energy efficiency remains a core strength as the smart controls automatically adjust illumination based on natural daylight and occupancy, achieving significant power savings while lowering operational costs for residents.
Environmentally friendly features include low-emission materials and designs that promote natural ventilation and light integration, enhancing indoor comfort without excessive energy demand.
The solution fully meets sustainability criteria, improving safety through reliable, low-maintenance components and elevating overall living quality for social housing dwellers—often families with modest incomes seeking affordable yet modern homes.
