LED High bay light or LED Low bay light?

LED high bay light and LED low bay light are quite common in commercial and industrial places. However, choosing the right one can leave significant impact on the safety of the facility as well as the efficiency of its operation.

What is a bay light?

Bay light is a lighting equipment that is mostly used for large spaces such as factories, warehouses or workshops, which require a uniform and well-distributed light. Bay light fits well for buildings where the ceiling is up to 10 feet high. But the ceiling height will determine low bay light or high bay light should be at play.

What are the main differences between LED high bay light and LED low bay light?

Each type of light fixtures is manufactured differently to suit the need of each space. Most LED high bay lights will use reflectors to help spread the light down and out to enhance visibility from a higher distance. A higher lumen output of LED high bay lights helps offset the longer distance.

Therefore, high bay light is often installed in a large space, where the height of ceilings ranges between 20 and 40 feet. Meanwhile, LED low bay light serves better the places with ceilings less than 20 feet above the floor, such as homes, public buildings or at retail businesses.

Beam angle

LED high bay lights generally use common beam angles such as 60°, 90° and 120°. These narrow angles create a more focused beam, providing a high level of lux across the floor. Meanwhile, the beam angle of LED low bay lights is 120°, allowing large areas with lower roofs to get excellent light distribution. Furthermore, lens angles are used to spread light further or direct light to specific places to maintain the desired level.

The high bay light can be hung by pendants or ceils with hooks. They can also be fixed directly to the ceiling. In addition, high bay light is used to provide illumination to vertical surfaces. Low bay light has a little flexibility since it is designed for spaces with lower ceilings, meaning less space to hang them. Therefore, it should be installed as close to the ceiling as possible.

LED high bay light is mostly used in industrial or commercial spaces, such as factories, warehouses, school, and university gymnasiums. LED low bay lights can still be employed in some of these locations, but it’s more common for warehouses, petrol stations, retail stores and commercial parking garages.
