Dragon fruit lighting system provides best assistance to cultivation
Dragon fruit, or the "fruit of many nutrients", has been widely popular so cultivation takes place in many countries, ranging from North to South America, from the Caribbean nations to Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Myanmar, Vietnam as well as other countries in Southeast Asia to meet the growing demand. While the crop only bears fruit at certain times of the year, a dragon fruit lighting system developed by Rang Dong has been used to control the blooming in many places.
Lighting impact on dragon fruit growth
A dragon fruit garden in the coastal city of Phan Thiet in Vietnam's south-central region.
The main factor influencing on dragon fruit's flowering is phytochrome pigment. The pigment gives a "signal" to the plant to recognize the time of blooming. Different from the sensitivity of the human eye, plants absorb the most in the blue light wavelength range and the red spectrum. The issue is to research and create a light with the right spectrum that can trigger the plant to bloom.
Rang Dong's lights are being installed in a dragon fruit garden.
Taking from the above issues, scientists at Rang Dong R&D Center have collaborated with biology experts from major institutes and universities such as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Can Tho University to study and manufacture LED bulbs with a light spectrum dedicated for dragon fruits. Rang Dong is Vietnam’s leading manufacturer of LED products and smart lighting solution provider.
The product will have a light spectrum at 3 peaks of wavelengths 450nm, 630nm and 730nm, consistent with the dragon fruit's absorption spectrum.
Rang Dong's technicians check growth indicators after lights have been installed to stimulate the crop.
This specialized LED product has the ability to stimulate flowering 20-25 percent higher than conventional compact lamps. It can be used to directly replace traditional lamps while maintaining the ability to save power up to 70-80 percent. The lamp has high durability, lasting 15,000 hours, with IP65 protection level, so it works stably outdoors and can withstand rain or wind, bringing growers peace of mind for the usage.
Rang Dong has developed this LED light for dragon fruit, model RLA060x114009MVNV1.
Installation tips
Installation model with a three-meter distance
A scheme shows how to install a dragon fruit lighting system.
This installation method is suitable for the beginning of the season.
+ Distance between 2 LED bulbs: 3 meters
+ Power: 10W/pillar
+ Number of lights: 1,000 bulbs/hectare
+ Light intensity on leaves: 0.3 - 1.1 µmol/m2/s
+ Lighting time: 10-12 nights, 8 hours/night
Installation model with a two-meter distance
A scheme shows how to install a dragon fruit lighting system with 2 meters between two LED bulbs.
This installation is suitable for the middle of the season.
+ Distance between 2 LED bulbs: 2 meters
+ Power: 14W/pillar
+ Number of lights: 1400 bulbs/ha
+ Light intensity on leaves: 0.6 - 1.3 µmol/m2/s
+ Lighting time: 12-15 nights, 8 hours/night
Installation model with a 1.5-meter distance
Dragon fruit lighting system
This installation is suitable for the end of the season.
+ Distance between 2 LED bulbs: 1.5 meter
+ Power: 18W/pillar
+ Number of lights: 1800 bulbs/ha
+ Light intensity on leaves: 0.9 - 1.7 µmol/m2/s
+ Lighting time: 16 -20 nights, 8 hours/night
Besides, we should also note the height of the lights. For white dragon fruit, the height is one to 1.2 meter, while red dragon fruit requires 0.7 to 1.0 meter.
It is necessary to pay attention to both the distance and the height of the lights.
