Rang Dong, S. Korea's APACK bring LED Lights to Vietnamese fishermen

Fishery has long been an important industry to supply food. Humans used various tools to catch fish, including lamps. From energy-consuming metal halide lamps to LED lights, technology development has now been effectively assisting the industry.

Introduction

Vietnam’s Rang Dong has started cooperating with South Korea’s APACK Inc. to design and install LED lights for fishing boats in Vietnam since 2018. Under the project, entitled KOVA, APACK, a LED lighting solution provider based in South Korea’s city of Daejeon, developed a new LED fishing light.

Hanoi-based Rang Dong, the country’s leading manufacturer of LED products and smart lighting solution provider, was in charge of installing and testing the LED fishing light.

KOVA Project between Rang Dong and APACK

KOVA project is aimed at improving LED light quality for Vietnam’s fishery.

The project emerged following a request by Vietnamese fishermen, who were seeking to reduce fuel consumption and raise productivity. At the time they were using about 100 1,000-W metal halide lamps on each seine net boat. They asked Rang Dong to use a LED light to substitute the lamps. Having realized the importance of a LED lighting solution for fishing, Rang Dong has teamed up with APACK.

Solution for KOVA project

The newly developed LED light works well in outdoor environment and is suitable for fishery.

The LED light proposed by APACK has excellent features. Its efficacy reaches a high level of 130 lumens per watt. The LED chips are made in South Korea with high luminous efficiency. Its driver has an optimal power factor of 0.99, helping to decrease the conversion from electricity into brightness. Moreover, the driver is integrated with an EMC and EMI filter, which does not disturb radio signals when the boat sails offshore. The driver also has surge protection features.

The LED fishing light is installed on board or on the side of the ship and can withstand salt, water and thunder. Its heatsink is designed with many fins to increase the heat releasing effect. Its surface is made of extruded aluminum, plated for anti-salt corrosion. The light’s beam angle is about 120 degree, sufficient to create light up an area on the water surface.

Rang Dong has installed a set of the new LED lights on board and the side of several fishing boats in the central provinces of Nghe An and Quang Ngai. The company monitored the lights’ performance for several months, checking their durability, brightness, energy-saving as well as the fishing yield. The results came extremely positive

Underwater LED light is another Rang Dong’s success to serve the fishing industry.

Furthering the KOVA project success, Rang Dong continues research and develops a series of LED lights for fishing with a variety of wattage and applications, including the underwater LED lights, which at a depth of 80 meters can lure fish, or the squid hooking light appropriate for small boats.

Furthermore, Rang Dong also provides an optimal lighting solution for fishing ships, for different fishing methods, such as using seine net, hook and line, Gillnet, and surrounding net. The company’s LED lights have been proven to be a reliable assistant for both onshore and offshore fishing.
