Rang Dong uses hi-tech, automated production lines for LED lightings
Rang Dong has obtained a steady growth over the past 60 years to become Vietnam’s No.1 LED lighting manufacturer. The Hanoi-based company has invested intensively in the research and application of new technologies, having spent a fifth of its annual after-tax profits on the development of science and technology, modern equipment, improving facilities, and inventing products.
Science and Technology Brain
Established in 2011, the Rang Dong Lighting Research & Development Center (LRDC) is considered “The Science and Technology Brain” of the Hanoi-based company. Its mission is to acquire the world's advanced knowledge and conduct thorough research on the achievements in physics, optics, biology, electronics, and IT for LED lighting mass production and provision of Green – Smart – Human Centric Lighting System and Solution (G - S - HCL).
LRDC’s process of LED lighting development
Among the professional special electronic simulation design software used for developing LED lighting, Rang Dong uses the modern ANSYS Icepak Automatic Mesh Settings Macro software for electronics thermal management. It determines the temperature and thermal simulation of the LED lighting. The software helps identify the best heat dissipation to reduce the cost of the experiment. Rang Dong also has TracePro, an optical simulation software, and DIALux, a professional lighting design software to simulate, calculate and visualize lights in real areas.

Rang Dong has applied quality assurance (QA) in its quality control system (QC) called IQC – PQC – OQC that ensures the quality from the beginning to the end of the production process, with three stages input, processing, and output.
International standard quality control system and tools of the TPS like 5S, Kaizen, Lean Six sigma
IQC stands for “input process quality”. The input material is very important for the performance of LED lighting. Rang Dong uses prestigious supplies such as Samsung LED, which is tested by Gamma, and complied with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and the 80 optical luminance test system to meet the bio-safety standard IEC 622778 and IEC 62471. It ensures enough blue light to create a friendly and safe lighting environment. The cover is tested by the special equipment to ensure the optical and temperature. Criteria for testing include transmittance, which ensures opacity enough to not lose much optical without dazzling; thermal resistance, which is to make sure with operating heat-resistant radiating from internal components and the cover, the light is durable, even in a high-temperature environment.
PQC, or process quality control, applies ERP SAP B1 to digitize plans and control the reliability process and production efficiency. Rang Dong invests in the U.S.-made SMT line with high speed, accuracy, and limited errors. All the LED packages are rechecked by AOI machines that can quickly detect errors.
OQC, or output quality control, is in place to ensure 100% of LED lighting is checked for good quality before the sale. LED lighting is checked for dust, vibration, humidity, electrical safety, fire safety, and EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) in the environment.
Coming from modern, automated production lines
Rang Dong has invented the LED lighting modern production lines with QEWS (Quality Early Warning System), ISO online where the standardized work manual is supplied directly to operators at the right step. The company focuses on applying advanced management systems such as ISO quality and quality tools like TWI, Lean Six Sigma, 5S, TPM to make the highest quality LED lighting at a reasonable price.
Shifting from manual to fully automatic quality control system is assisted by the QEWS model.
The LED drivers are produced in the THT production lines that ensure the electrical parameters. It also spreads silicone to protect the circuit board and minimize impacts on the environment. All the drivers have the parameters tested automatically.
Rang Dong uses the nanomaterial for making the cover. Heavy machines such as CNC, laser cutting machines are also utilized to make the frame before it’s moved to the automated powder coating lines.
In adapting I4.0 with digital transformation, Rang Dong has re-designed to make a manual production line an automated one. Each production line has alert devices such as sensors, cameras, step motors, and electric counter.
