Rang Dong's G-S-HCL Lighting Solution Serves Green Buildings
Lighting is one of the environmental factors people experience most often, yet it is frequently overlooked in green building projects which focus mainly on landscaping, eco-friendly materials or electricity savings. The award-winning Green, Smart, Human Centric Lighting solution (G-S-HCL lighting solution) developed by Rang Dong, Vietnam’s leading innovator in lighting and smart technology, provides great support for buildings to meet international standards for indoor health, comfort and sustainability.
In the solution which won the Vietnam Smart City Prize 2020 with a five-star label by the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association, Green favors high-efficiency light sources controlled according to actual needs, cutting unnecessary electricity use.
Smart connects fixtures to sensors, controllers and Rang Dong’s Smart app for scheduling and adjusting brightness or color temperature across multiple devices. Human Centric Lighting is designed to place visual comfort and occupant wellbeing at the center of the design.
Rather than keeping one fixed brightness and color temperature all day, a G-S-HCL system adjusts light intensity, color temperature and lighting scenario based on the time, space and activity. Rang Dong's Tunable White LED technology makes it possible to set lighting suited to working, studying, reading, receiving guests or relaxing.

LOTUS certification
LOTUS, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Local Operation Unit, is a green building rating system developed by the Vietnam Green Building Council for Vietnam’s construction market to assess projects across categories such as energy performance, indoor health and comfort.
Under LOTUS New Construction type, the health and comfort category covers ventilation, low-emission materials, biophilic design, daylighting, views, thermal and acoustic comfort. Interior fit-out projects rated under LOTUS Interiors have their lighting comfort criterion, while lighting efficiency and controls fall under the energy category.
This shows lighting quality in a LOTUS-rated project is assessed based on more than energy savings; it ties directly to occupant comfort.
A well-designed G-S-HCL solution can support both goals at once, though installing tunable fixtures or smart controls does not by itself guarantee certification, which still depends on the overall lighting design and control strategy of each project.
Lighting: adequate lighting to adaptive

A G-S-HCL system can set different lighting scenarios for different spaces rather than one brightness level everywhere.
Workspaces and classrooms can maintain the illuminance needed for clear visual tasks, while bedrooms and relaxation areas should use softer lighting. Combined with presence and daylight sensors, the system can automatically dim or switch off lighting when not needed, saving energy while keeping conditions consistent.
Rang Dong's RalliSmart platform adds scheduling, centralized control and the ability to switch scenarios as needs change, while device status data can help facility managers track operating hours and refine how lighting energy is used over time.
Lighting in a green building needs to go beyond simply being adequate to be able to address energy efficiency, visual comfort, controllability, and fit with how people use a space, all at once.
By moving from fixed lighting to adaptive lighting integrated with daylight, interior design and sensors from the earliest design stage, Rang Dong's G-S-HCL lighting solution offers a practical option for project teams working toward LOTUS certification and lighting quality improvements.
