Solar Lighting, IoT and AI Technology Used on Vietnam's Island
In September 2023, Rang Dong, Vietnam's leading manufacturer of LED products and smart lighting solution provider, cooperated with the local authority on Co To island, some 80 km east off the northern province of Quang Ninh, to install a solar lighting solution, integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Co To is part of Van Don, Vietnam's largest island district.

Salt corrosion resistance: The specially designed lighting system resists salt corrosion, ensuring durability and a long lifespan in harsh environments.
Smart communication: The lights communicate with each other and the cloud via wireless technologies such as RIIM, NB-IoT, and 3G/4G, allowing remote management and control.
Centralized monitoring and management: Using digital maps to display the lights based on GPS coordinates, the system monitors each street and lighting point for lifespan, usage time, and power consumption analysis.
Flexible operation modes: The system operates in both online and offline modes. Scenarios are stored on each light. Even when the gateway fails or Internet connection is lost, the lights keeps functioning as normal. It is possible to control individual or groups of lights for turning on/off, dimming, and preset scenarios from a central control room.
Once applied, AI technology can forecast and diagnose equipment failures, optimize control strategies, enhance lighting time and extend the product's life.
The solar lighting system helps reduce Co To island's electricity consumption, protect the green environment, ensure traffic safety and maintain public security.
On the other hand, night lighting extends active hours of the island, promotes night tourism and highlights the island's landscape.
In terms of monitoring, the centralized management allows flexible adjustment of lighting times, real-time monitoring of parameters, and quick detection of issues, minimizing inspection and operation time for the lighting network.
Rang Dong's smart lighting system has been installed on a route at Dragon Claw beach on Co To island since September 2023.
Recognition
After thorough research, the solar street lighting solution using the CSD02.SL 70W.IoT model was completed and installed in September 2023 at the route to Dragon Claw Beach, Cô Tô Island. The results are impressive:
This project not only brings practical benefits to Co To island, but also serves as a model for replication in other regions, especially those with similar conditions.
The integration of IoT and AI technology with solar energy is a crucial step in modernizing lighting systems, contributing to the sustainable and smart development of urban areas.
